one more...

For the love of the internet and all things crafty/creative, here's one more excellent site/e-mag. Lonny Mag is a wonderful option in the demise of shelter print magazines. Fan them on fbook so you never miss a new issue!

it's been 2.5 years, but...

I still love looking at wedding sites. Seriously, I'm impressed with what's out there, especially what's free and DIY. Our wedding was simple and just right for us. There is so much creativity out there and there are good ideas that can cross over to showers, parties, anything really. I just found this site and I have to share, so mark your google readers...

life and basketball, wait, I meant...

soccer. Kalin and I had a lengthy conversation about how my defense on the soccer field looks more like I'm trying to get mark my person in basketball. Whoops, perhaps my dreams of joining the USA women's dream team could still be a reality. Oh well, I've only played soccer two times lately - I'll get better I promise. It was fun, but I definitely need some work - both with skill and trying to not run my mouth. Oy. Last thing I want is a yellow card for as Kalin calls it "sass".

In other news, lucky me, I'm learning all sorts of new words. Of the legal kind. It's a bit overwhelming and slightly confusing. I'm looking forward to a moment where I can relate some of this to Law and Order. Seriously - it's I'll I've got going for me at the moment.

craftastic.

I hadn't had much time during the Fall Semester to sit down and craft my heart out. I was only able to finish projects that were gifts but knew that when we had our school break and a little time off from work, I was going get some projects done. Over the New Years four-day weekend we headed up to Grand Lake with some friends joining us for part of the time up there. I spent most of the time behind the sewing machine. It was blissful! I had finished about 3 squares out of 9 for a quilt that I've been working on since this past summer. All 9 squares are finished - time for the quilting!
Sorry about the flash - it was dark and I was so ecstatic to be finished with the quilt top. Lots of pieces to put together, but the combo is so fun! Can't wait to get this one finished and in-use to keep me warm!

Also, over the Christmas break, I busted out a new sashiko (japanese stitching) with some lovely purple and pink variegated floss. I'm thinking it will be a pillow when it's finished if I can find some fabric to match.
School starts next week, so I'm hoping somehow I can fit more stitching and sewing into my weekly routine. Its my perfect downtime and it's nice to accomplish something other than homework.

list recap.

I can't seem to put a well-thought out blog together these days. So, here's another list of life lately:

Puppy is much better.
Family is fun.
It was nice to not have to hop on a plane for holiday events for the first time in a long time.
I ordered my own letterpress.
Mountain time = a quilt top finished.
School starts next week.
I'm afraid of my hefty Business Law book and all the jibber-jabber inside of it.
We're hoping Hawaii's in our near future.
One-step closer in getting more house decorating done.
Enjoyed the L&O: SVU marathon during New Years.
Forgot to take pictures.
Still think I need a dSLR.
Work is b-u-s-y.
Kalin plays indoor soccer on the weekends and I get to play with them this weekend. I'm all talk, let's see if I remember anything from my time playing in 1st grade.
I wish I played more tennis. Just checked - tennis lessons are expensive.

blog-a-holic

I'll gladly admit it. I love blogs. I'm obsessed with all things crafty and home dec blogs, to be particular. Being that I'm a bit behind in thinking of what I can actually post on my own blog, I'll share some of my favorite blogs.

Design*Sponge has been filling my google-reader with much goodness over the past year and the author, Grace Bonney, has grown this blog into the place-to-be for all things design. With the unfortunate demise of my dearest shelter magazines, Blueprint, Metropolitan Home, Domino (just to name a few), Design Sponge has filled a great void. It's even more than just home decor, it's wonderful recipes, DIY, gift guides, travel, and everything in-between. And the pictures are simply inspirational, and unfortunately make me want to redesign everything.
Anna Maria Horner is one of my favorite fabric designers. Her blog is equally fantastic. I'm currently working on a quilt with some of her Garden Party Line. She's also published a wonderful book called Seams to Me, 24 New Reasons to Love Sewing. Her blog showcases her amazing fabric and endless world of creativity.

Well there's at least a few hundred more blogs out there that I enjoy...so this is a start!

rough week.

This week is basically finals week and in true finals week fashion, we had some unplanned things come up.

We got back from a lovely thanksgiving in Asilomar and a huge family reunion. Kalin was a bit sick over the trip, but got much worse when we got home. Mochi was picked up from the kennel he was at during our trip to only a day later come down with a fever, colon blockage, kidney infection, kennel cough...and he wasn't eating and had lost about 1 lb.

I had gotten home from my class Monday night to not even have the little guy pay any attention. He could barely stand. So, at 11p, we rushed to the emergency pet hospital, where he'd stay overnight. The next morning, they had gotten his fever down but he still needed to be monitored - early we went to move him from the ER to the vet. Coincidently, I had a night recruitment event and was coming down with my own cold.

Mochi was a trooper and is still getting better (yay!). Kalin and I were trying to care for Mochi while our busiest school weeks was upon us. I think we're almost there... I'll be done tomorrow night and Kalin should be done shortly thereafter. Then: 3-week school break, which will make our normal 40-hour work week seem like a vacation.

We made it, all three of us...

oy.
